Take Back the Night

My second semester of senior year in college, I took a Digital Storytelling class. In that class, we were assigned to create different non-fiction stories using digital methods and means. Several Adobe Suite programs were introduced to us, along with programs to run digital click-games. For my final assignment, I decided to use Adobe Portfolio to put together a story one of the only creative ways I know how: using my hands, making the art physical.

First, I chose my topic of non-fiction: women's rights, as an umbrella term. More closely, I focused on sexual assault and how that has impacted women's lives (and what they have done about it).

Since I am obsessed with doing physical collages, I decided that would be my medium, and that I would scan the pages to upload onto a digital space. I have many tools of collaging at my disposal, so I used those to piece together a story about the women's right's movement Take Back the Night, including my own personal story and the story of Katie Koestner as well. I used pieces of colored paper, textured paper, print images, string, thread, stickers, printed photographs, my own artwork, and old newspaper clippings that were primarily directed at women.

I really think this piece speaks better by itself rather than me explaining every detail. So, if you are so interested:
