Scene Work: Cabaret
For my sophomore year of college, I did Practicum work with the mainstage production of Cabaret. I chose to focus on set work and learning more about scenic design and painting. This included building the miniature stage and doing some preliminary sketching/painting on the actual set, both of which are shown below.

Miniature 1
This was the base part of the miniature I was working with, which helped with making the rest of the pieces of the paper set to scale.

Miniature 2
This is the arial view of the miniature after I completed building each paper set piece. It required meticulous precision so all the lines would match, and so the pieces would stay level. I used tape, a glue gun, pens, pencils, etc.

Miniature 3
This is the final, finished product of the miniature of Cabaret's stage. I was and am very proud of my work with this as it was my first time making a miniature such as this one. I also had a lot of fun with the opportunity.

This is the initial sketch of one of the set pieces for the show. I used charcoal to sketch the basic design and then painted over the lines with a light layer of white paint to get a uniform color that was different from the plain yellow background.

This is that same sketch, but in progress as I began painting the bowl. The color I was instructed to use was this black color. I utilized some blending techniques with white/gray so the sheen of the bowl could be seen on stage from the audience.

This is a separate set piece for Cabaret, featuring the fruit cart. This was my initial sketch after instructions were given to me to imagine up what kinds of fruit would be for sale. I used reference photos to sketch up initial designs for pears, apples, melons, and oranges. I did this using charcoal.
